  1. This program has a wonderfully inventive menu system for accessing tools. This unique interface system takes a bit to get used to but it provides a great way of accessing tools. There are a lot of great tools but it takes a while to figure out how to use them.

I kept trying to use this program for specific projects but tended to get frustrated and give up. I really liked how the tools were organized but could just not get the program to do what I wanted it to.

    My Rating: 3 / 5

  2. I bought this program, I have used it, and I love the look and feel of it. It is the closest thing to traditional medium on paper I have found in the digital realm. BUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It crashes 2 or 3 times AN HOUR!!!!! My specs exceed wildly what is recommended. I see no patches online, no way to increase the memory allocated to Sketchbook, or any real options in the program to control anything other than the width of my stroke. The custom brush tool is pretty well done.

It is good at what it does WHEN it decides to work, BUT it can be devestating to your production value if you dont save after every 2 or 3 strokes of the tablet. VERY disappointed. Not sure this has any value above and beyond what Photoshop does out of the box, and Photoshop doesn’t have these stability issues.

    My Rating: 2 / 5

  3. First the Bad then the Good…

I really tried to like this software…

I have become a much more confident fan of software coming out of companies like Alias and AutoDesk than I have from Adobe in recient years…

but I have been using Photoshop to do drawings and line Artwork and color work for some number of years now…

I must say that even though SketchBook Pro does have some nice features…

    I can’t say it stacks up to a Photoshop…

I paid about $500 for my last copy of Photoshop…

Auto Desk is asking about 1/5th or 1/6th the price of that for this software…

I have to admit that is a high price for what you get out of this product…

I can sketch out what I need much faster in Photoshop than I can with this software

of coarse I have many a year of doing just that… and only about a week of working with Sketchbook…

My biggest problem is that I routinely work with a canvas that is 8″ X 11″ at 300 dpi…

at that resolution… SketchBook slows to a crawl on some of it’s tools… namely the Blur Brush… where as in photoshop the Blur Brush sings right along at this resolution…

    However….

Not all is bad… and I really like the touch and feel of this Package… especially the Strait line tool and the Elipse tool… Photoshop can’t even touch these two tools with a 10foot pole…

the best you can do in PS is to goof around with Path layers then you will have to redo them 7 times to get them right…

were as in Sketch Book… Bada Bing Bada Boom… and your done…

But finally in the end… Sketch Book just doesn’t have enough punch… if it would take on some more photoshop like features I could warm up to it more… and perhaps that is exactly what AutoDesk intends to do with it… who knows… but for now…

I am forced to stick with the Ugly ol’ truth….

Photoshop does everything this one does… maybe a bit clunky in some areas… plus alot more… so….

    My Rating: 2 / 5

  4. THATCH says:

This is the best product available to serve the widest gambit of people who may have an interest. You could almost think this application was made by Apple. Highly recommended.

    My Rating: 5 / 5

  5. First of all, you should probably note that this software is NOT for “normal” computer users. It is complicated and difficult to use if you aren’t a serious artist. That being said, if you can use Photoshop, you can use this. This version is a nice upgrade from the previous version and the interface will be very friendly to photoshop users. The uses of this product are virtually unlimited if you are an artist, or if you just like messing around drawing. My favorite new feature is the Symmetric Drawing Brush, which takes the tedium out of symmetric drawing by doing it for you! It will save you an incredible amount of time and the results are fabulous. Overall, this is a great piece of software and I highly recommend it.

    My Rating: 5 / 5
